Let the Slab of the Year Voting Begin !

At long last 10 of last year's Slab of the Month winners have been loaded into the poll widget and we're ready to narrow  the field to 4 finalists for the big prize.

Vote for your top 4 on the sidebar and we'll load the winners for a final SOTY showdown next week. Be advised the poll is configured so the choices load randomly so that everyone gets a chance to be at the top of the poll at some point.

A Slab of the Year photo album has also been posted on the sidebar just below the poll widget so you can view the top 10 in  their full sized glory. You can also click HERE to view the slab gallery, just hit any thumbnail after the jump to load the viewer.

The two monthly winners who did not make the final cut can also be seen in the slab album.

The 2007 Moldy Chum Slab of the Year

The final votes have been counted and Justin Crump's rooster just edges out Randall Bryett's poon to take the 2007 Slab of the Year award, some Patagonia Watermaster 2 waders, and Chum bragging rights for the next year. Randall scores a new Reel Pure soft shell as runner up and Kari Dahl will receive a dozen flies and Wetfly box for bringing home the bronze.

Thanks to all who took the time to enter and to all our loyal readers worldwide who voted.

If it's any consolation the EU went overwhelmingly for the Albacore.

So did the Marianas

The rooster and the poon ruled in Central and South America.

Looks like Yi voted for the Albacore too.

Slab of the Millenium?

We've bumped this post up to throw down an update on the identification of this slab contestant.  Little did Gerard Mathijssen (pictured) know, he was pegged by the Chum as a contender.  While we had a few Chum loyalists attempt to track Gerard down, it was Ruud van Deursen of South Africa that found him.  Thanks Ruud...a holiday gift is on the way!

We know not from where you come nor do we know your name, but we do know one thing.  You, my friend, are flirting with the slab of the year.

We will send a free Reel Pure waterproof hat (Australian oilskin) to the individual who identifies who this man is.  Just send an email to thatsphuckinbig@reelpure.com if you know this beast slayer.  Seriously.  Ask your guide friends, your lodge friends, ask anyone.  Help The Chum find this man!

New York Chinook

Ed Felker submitted this stating, "it's probably not the slab of the year, but it's the biggest I got this year."  Our response?  No submission is un-slabworthy!

Nice work on the double handed stick Ed!

Our Man Ron Thomas

RT plucked his slab of the year out of the Wallace River in late September on a big nasty assault leech.

Senor Thomas also had a cool little profile published on Blackoutdoorsman Magazine.  LINK
