While Rathbun was off on location in B.C. we took advantage of a break in the Pineapple Express to hit an OP trib with our old pal and Asheville native Lance Goodgion. Despite being a lifelong angler and Harker's Albie master, Lance had never fished for steelhead until our excursion last week.
Things did not look promising when we first arrived but the river was on the drop and we had our first steelhead to hand within 10 minutes. We went on to hook 7 or 8 more, landed four, including 2 for our rookie steelheader.
In between steelhead and Lance's 15 minute tussle with a fair hooked 20 plus pound King, we also landed a ton of beautiful Dollies
Nothing in the world quite like your first steelhead.

Forgot to post this dispatch from our fearless leader last week.
In the Week That Was. Today got the Grand Slam between the boy and me. Aidan started with a 25 lb permit at dawn on a 'live crab pattern' on a flat over in the backcountry south of Big pine,.then a pair of 90 lb tarpon a couple of hours later on the edge of Bow Channel. I got on the board with about an 80 lb fish then a four pound bone on a tan clouser. Aidan finished the day with a 60 lb poon and a real pig at about 120 pounds. Off to the Half Shell raw bar now for blackened grouper and key lime pie, and a nice margie. Tommorow we fish up the keys from the road at Missouri Key, Bahia Honda state park, and Lignumvitae, catch a 6 o clock flight to DIA and drive up to the Reef tomorrow night. Saturday float the Reef then rocket down to Delaney Butte for callis and chronis on Sunday. A fly fishing week of surf and turf....from 80 lb shock tippet to 6X in less than 24 hours. Excaliber!
The fishing on the Reef was a little weedy but the hatch was on at Delaney.

We just got a few pics of a future Reel Purist and had to share with the Chum nation. Australia's Allistair McBurnie's shots are pretty ill to say the least.
She flowed heavy this winter!
But was low and clear Sunday. Too much so actually.
Not the Nehalem however. Plenty of water. And chrome.
Leatherman Tool sales mangler, David Haeberle NOT getting it done on this sweet Northwest flow.
Cast, mend, step. Repeat.
Delaney Buttes was the destination for this year's post FFR fish fest. There are some more photos to come from the High Plains Drifter but here are a just few highlights from Sully's boat

Montage-a-google is a simple web-based app that uses Google's image search to generate a large gridded montage of images based on keywords (search terms) entered by the user. We tried it with keywords fly fishing and steelhead and got the montages above. LINK
