2009 AMFF Annual Dinner at the New York Anglers' Club

As you probably already know, rumor has it Darth Cheney accepted an invitation to appear at the American Museum of Fly Fishing annual dinner. While most are reporting on the outrage that is justifiably being directed at museum officials, we're reporting the following.....

No mention of Dick being part of the program however.

Executive Director of the American Museum of Fly Fishing, Catherine Comar, said the museum would not comment on whether Cheney would be the guest of honor and speaker at the dinner, nor would she confirm or deny rumors that the invitation or event may be postponed until the fall.  LINK  (Via: The Manchester Journal)

Fly Fishing Film Tour Launch is Urinal Cake Free

The 2009 Fly Fishing Film Tour officially launched in Colorado Springs last Thursday, Patagonia man on the scene Matty O.  filed this report.

The Fly Fishing Film Tour got off to a good start last night with the event benefiting Project Healing Waters down in Colorado Springs. Good attendance - probably 250 folks - and a classic new-school blue grass band called Grass It Up. They did some hilarious covers of Prince and KC & the Sunshine Band - a good time had by all.

The film selections were quite good and everyone left stoked to get on the water. The venue was a lot different than expected but the owners donated the space which you can’t beat. A couple photos for you (the urinal shot is a just a little reminder that Fenway and Gill Stadium are not the only places on earth with such fine receptacles!)… I'll have a full post on RMPFF soon.

The Great Falls Flyfishing Film Festival is currently accepting submissions for the 2009 Film Festival.

Categories:

Short Film (less than 8 minutes)- $350 first prize

Long Film (8-20 minutes)- $500 first prize

Films should be submitted in DVD format. Deadline for submissions is January 9, 2009. Please send films to:

Just chatted with TR at AEG and it looks like the wallet is opening this year.  They'd like to announce that $5k is up for reward during the Fly Fishing Film Tour.

Spey Daze

After 6 years on the Sky, the 7th annual Spey Days NW will be moving to Howard Miller Steelhead Park on the Skagit. Some of the best Spey casters on the planet will be on hand for casting instruction. The lineup includes, Mike McCune, Scott O'Donnell, Ed Ward, George Cook, Al Buhr, Dana Sturn, Tim Rajeff, Way Yin, Trey Combs, Kerry Burkheimer and Dec Hogan.

More good work from the fly fishing community

In 2006, a  small but dedicated group of fly tiers in the Fayetteville, NC area planned a fund raising event to support the efforts of the March of Dimes in working to prevent preterm birth.

The inaugural event was an immediate success, raising over $3500 for the March of Dimes, and donating approximately 350 flies to Casting for Recovery. We have now completed three Tie-a-thons.  Together these Tie-a-thons and related events have raised over $15,000 for the March of Dimes, and more than 800 flies have been donated!  In addition, these events have been a lot of fun and have allowed us to introduce numerous people to the joys of fly tying.

New Rules - fly fishing is not a team sport

Eleven teams representing six nations will compete in the inaugural America Cup fly-fishing competition Wednesday through Friday in the Blue, Colorado and Arkansas river drainages.

Teams from Australia, Hungary, Ireland, Japan and Poland will challenge two squads from Fly Fishing Team USA, along with the U.S. Youth Team, a Stream Team women's squad and a WorldCast Anglers team of U.S. notables.
