Now it's possible. Just got this note from good friend and incredible Olympic Peninsula Steelhead Guide, Jim Kerr.
My good friend and fellow fishing guide Sam Kennedy has been very sick with cancer for some time, and despite good health insurance it has predictably put his family on the ropes financially. There is a benefit dinner for him here in Forks on the 7th and lots of guides including myself have offered to donate trips for auction. I have decided instead of donating a trip I will be donating a fly caught steelhead, no matter how many trips it takes, whether or not you have ever cast a fly rod before, post your bid on the blog and if you are the highest bidder I will take you fishing until you hook and land a fresh run adult steelhead.
The details are simple, book the day you want, if you don’t land a steelhead, we will book another day and so on. If there are two of you well then, we will have to get you each one.
You can bid on the trip on my blog, Raincoastguides.com or by phone and I will post your bid, or you can bid in person on the night of the 7th in forks
Having fished with Jim before, accomplishing this first time out is very doable.
The votes are in and here's the scoop:
First Place: Sickles shocks the world with a Columbia trib slab of steel that still has us shaking our heads. Congrats Sam, you've just won a Patagonia Freewheeler.
Second Place: Beatty is knighted by a insanely large King and takes home some River Armor as a result.
Thanks to all who participated this year - here's to an even more fishy and slab invested 2009!
As we fixed our site problems yesterday, we finally got around to also fixing some URL issues. You may have noticed in the past that in order to get to our site it was required to enter "www" before moldychum (as opposed to just typing in moldychum.com like most civilized keyboard jockeys do). Not including "www" took people to some internet traffic site-whore that had an image of a dude holding a beautiful 2 lb rainbow taken from a nuclear test facility. As you can imagine, this was a site visit that did wonders for our brand.
If we were smart, we would have resolved this years ago. Regardless, the consolation prize for our Shawn Pennian behavior will be an overnight spike in traffic that could push 30 percent. The Chum board of investors will be so pleased.
By the way - it is not our intention to offend anyone other than ourselves and Shawn Penn in this post.
Yeah, we live in Washington, but Oregon has our heart. Which is why we're keep our fingers on the pulse of this.
Please help make the legislators aware of Common Waters of Oregon and let them know we would like to review any bills that involve public river rights.
If you could send a note to Senator Bates and to Senator Atkinson asking them to get any information on river rights bills to us, we would greatly appreciate it.
From today's inbox.
Friends of Wild Salmon would like to pass along this event notice from our allies at North West Watch in Terrace:
Coalbed Methane Rally
TUESDAY, JULY 15th @ 5:00pm
George Little Park, Terrace, BC
This is an excellent opportunity for Terrace & watershed residents to learn more about the serious risks that Coalbed Methane (CBM) development in the headwaters of the Skeena, Nass & Stikine poses to our salmon, water & wildlife.
The Rally starts at the George Little Park (beside the library) to begin our walk through downtown and across the Sande Overpass to the Shell Open House at the Elks Lodge on Tetrault Street.
We encourage anyone with questions and concerns about CBM to come and lend your voice to this important event. There will be guest speakers, including MP Nathan Cullen.
For more information please contact North West Watch:

Update from J.T. who is currently working the beat in Mainland China.
Just thought you might want and update and fodder for a post.
I went to get a steaming helping of MOLDY CHUM yesterday while staving insanity while working at one of my Chinese factories. Apparently the CHUM is a threat to socialism and represents a threat to the Chinese way of life. Even a quick view of the chum may incite democratic feelings, and cause dissention. Apparently the free and sarcastic life of a fly-fishing chumster would be too much to bear for a local and would cause them to seek a better life and existence through the way of the fish.
What I am trying to say is THE CHUM IS OFFICIALLY BLOCKED on the mainland. As is your brother publication Wayupstream.
Just thought you may want to know your impact is felt around the world in many ways.
Remember the socialist “confuse us” say
Phish thing is a bad thing.
And CHUM thing is wrong
"Thank you all very much for coming out today."

This is the outbound decal mailing pile - 24 hours after our last announcement for free Chum sizzle. Not bad. But we can do better.
Is your ride sans Chum? Correct yourself if the answer is yes.
There is no catch. No marketing list. Just pure sexy time if and when you send us a note with your mailing address requesting a decal (free to US addresses only). Please include "I'm a Chumaholic" in the subject line.
Chandler at The Trout Underground has blown the lid off the Siskiyou County Board of Supervisors plan to declare the Upper Sacramento, McCloud, Shasta and Scott Rivers as, "Non-Navigable. If this plan were to be approved, fisherman would lose their rights to wade these rivers between the high water marks.
Please take a moment to read the details on The Underground, link below, and how you can help take the fight to the Siskiyou Board. Your actions can will help preserve river access on these waters for our friends in California and future generations of anglers. If we allow these actions to limit historical access it hurts all anglers by setting precedents that can be used by other unscrupulous local governments.

Your help is needed to help bring needed change to mining regulations. Tomorrow, the entire House of Representatives will vote on the first real mining law reform in more than 10 years.
Please call today! Tell your Representative to vote for HR2262, the Hardrock Mining and Reclamation Act of 2007. You can find your Representative's contact information here; background on the issue can be found at earthworksaction.org.
We're a little late to the game here but every call will help! TAKE ACTION!!!! The Mining Law Act of 1872 is arguably the worst case of corporate welfare in our nation's history. If it's after hours you can still call your reps D.C. office and leave a message, TELL THEM TO VOTE YES ON HR2262
Join the Chum tribe and send us a note with your mailing address requesting a decal - please include "I gargle Chum every morning" in the subject line.
The new head of the agency leading the effort to clean up Puget Sound is longtime environmental lawyer David Dicks. He was appointed Tuesday by Gov. Chris Gregoire to run the newly created Puget Sound Partnership.
Puget Sound suffers from historical and ongoing pollution, the development and destruction of shorelines, and overfishing. LINK
The Chum team was invited to participate in the branding strategy of this new plan. Our first meeting starts tomorrow. We'll be joining forces with creative firm Bridgeman Design for a Vulcan mind meld. Our fish saturated cerebellum for once just may be used for a good cause!
We leave for the Kenai for 4 days and there are ONLY 10 free decal requests from our readers in our inbox? What gives? We're averaging 100 requests a month and the request volume this last week is unacceptable.
There is no catch. You won't be put on a marketing list. Get on board with the Chum/Reel Pure tribe and send us a note with your mailing address requesting a decal. The RP Solo Fly is to bug junkies what Axe is to nubile young ladies.
Spread the 'tude and stop being a passive knucklehead. Get more!

B2 and I are joining Ridings Jr. and Sr. for some Cook Inlet meat harvesting on July 12th/13th (out of Nanilchik). After we get our fix of barn-doors, we're ditching the boys from South Cackalacki, scrapping the broomsticks and picking up the 6 weights for some inland bushwacking on the Peninsula. Are there any Chum Junkies out there that:
a) Have the upper Kenai and/or Russian dialed in for bows this time of year (or any other Ace-Up-The-Sleeve flow)?
b) Any bored guides (foot or drift) that want to join the goofballs from Moldy Chum for a Sat/Sun (14th, 15th) flogging session?
Send us a note if you're down or if you have any scoop for our last minute wild hair. Free schwag to those who come strong to the hoop.
Warning - the Chum's fresh new face has no impact on its voice. The bad breath you've come to know and love will continue to linger.
