Happy Holidays

West bay of Reel Pure loading dock 3 (a.k.a....the left-hand side of our garage)

After landing our first major Reel Pure retail account, we found out that we actually had to go to work.  It took one weekend, 16 hour days, a couple cases of grog, and too much pizza to finally finish packing and shipping our Reel Pure seasonal dry bag gift pack.  Check back in a few days...we'll have a formal announcement and pictures of some cool new product.

Happy Halloween!

Halloween and fly fishing may seem like an odd mix, but not for true anglers. Yep, I’m talking about the ultimate test of your abilities and nerve.  LINK

Platte River Love

Our boy Kit from Wetfly just returned from a jaunt to the Platte.  Looks like he faired a bit better than our trip to the Deschutes last week!   We already knew Wetfly's bugs kicked ass, but proof is in the pudding.

A Salmon Guide to Catch That Fly Fishing Hottie

Ladies, it's spawning season again - for our andromous friends. Yes, the salmon and steelhead have eaten all summer, I know, I know, while we've all been starving ourselves to paint on bikinis, to make their final labors of love on inland rivers. It's constant sex, pregnancy, then death - doesn't it just feel that way for all of us?  VIA Happy Woman Magazine LINK

How Do You Say Stripah?

Big D Posse

Last week, part of the Chum/Reel Pure posse loaded up the boats and headed south to the Deschutes.  While we didn't set any quantity or quality records, we caught enough to keep our waders bulging and had a seriously fun time.

Fishing With My Old Guy

Sounds like a fun read.

On this trip, though, the goal was to catch the biggest brook (i.e., speckled) trout in the world, to best the record 14 pounds. But nature was against them, with an unrelenting, freezing wind, lots of rain and at least one ice storm. The terrain, too, was hostile and the engine on their boat uncooperative. Everything went badly, leaving this humorous account the only bright spot in their quest.  VIA Amazon  LINK

Reel Purist of the Week

One early morning, we got out to Ambrose Tower - choppy water, 2 to 3 footers - it didn't look good. Two hours later, the sun was out and the water turned to glass. Out of nowhere, skip jacks and blue fin tuna were bustin' everywhere! If we weren't busy enough battling the torpedoes, 15-pound (plus!) Mahi break in to the mix (jumping for max air). The bait was so thick, it was scattering at the bow of the boat. LINK

River Girls is a book in which four girls, just like you, each tell the story of how they began fly fishing and why they think you should give it a try.  Besides their stories, there's lots of information and comments from the girls on how to get started, the gear and how to use it, places to go fly fishing, illustrations of how to cast, pictures of girls out enjoying fly fishing, and much more. Longest undeveloped coastline gets protection

Even though I disagree with just about everything the man does, I'll give W some credit for signing this legislation.

Areas protected include King Range, the longest stretch of undeveloped coastline in the contiguous United States; Cache Creek, home to the second-largest wintering bald eagle population in California; and portions of Eel River, which hosts 30 percent to 50 percent of the state's endangered summer-run steelhead trout.  LINK
