FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Glide, Ore. - Umpqua Feather Merchants Relocates to the Rockies

After thirty years on the banks of the beautiful North Umpqua River, Umpqua Feather Merchants, the world’s foremost manufacturer of fishing flies, is moving to Colorado.

The opportunities offered by the move mesh perfectly with Umpqua’s needs and future goals:
Availability of a larger labor pool, many of whom are skilled practitioners of the sport Umpqua serves
Three-day shipping to almost anywhere in the U.S., ensuring quicker service to all customers
Reduced transit time to and from overseas suppliers
Easier and shorter travel time for Umpqua personnel to all customer locations.

A multi-faceted operational and growth strategy was outlined when Hans Bosch purchased Umpqua Feather Merchants two years ago.  This year has seen that strategy come to fruition with several important initial steps:
An aggressive increase in fly production, to an historic level, ensuring tremendous customer satisfaction in fulfilling fly orders
An operational streamlining to the Oregon facility, from purchasing thru warehousing and shipping
An ongoing software change leading to improved information and systems integration.

An important element of Umpqua’s plan was the construction of a new physical plant, designed for operational efficiency and growth in the 21st century.  Over the years add-ons, to what was essentially an old metal barn, have been made to the Oregon facility.  This provided an increase in space but did not enhance workplace efficiency.  What Umpqua needed was a new, state of the art facility housing all operations under one roof.

The question was, where?  Colorado offered the best choice of locations, specifically Louisville, a suburb on the Front Range between Boulder and Denver.  The relocation will be carried out in two phases lasting up to eighteen months, with elements of management moving immediately.

Jeff Fryhover, President/COO, states “We will assuredly miss our many friends in Glide, and will always treasure the legacy and beauty of the North Umpqua River.  We see the move to Colorado as a great step that will offer opportunity and growth in equal measure, and enable us to better meet the needs of our discerning customers in the years to come.”
